Louise is an accomplished and much respected figure in the musical life of Buckinghamshire and the surrounding counties and is in constant demand at musical events. She has enjoyed a long association with The Orpheus and was the Choir’s accompanist prior to becoming Musical Director in 2003.
Her passion for music and performance began at a very early age. Louise’s talents extend to solo performance, acting, teaching and arranging. She is also Musical Director for the now well-established community choir, Downley Descants. In addition Louise recently became Choir Mistress and Organist at St. Joseph’s, Chalfont St. Peter.
Louise’s dedication and commitment to The Orpheus is plain to see and her superb musical abilities ensure that the renowned “sound” of the Orpheus continues to flourish. She strives to achieve the finest blend of beautiful harmonies with The Orpheus choristers. Indeed the Choir’s popularity and acclaim is a credit to her unique sense of professionalism, patience and panache!
She continues to create a fine balance of both old and new repertoire that our concert audiences love to hear!
Louise is looking forward to all the challenges ahead of the Choir, both far and near.

Accompanist - Yuan StylesYuan Styles

Yuan was born in Zhanjiang on 25th December 1983. Her parents decided she should play the piano and she began formal instruction at 6 years old. At the age of 12 she was accepted into Wuhan Conservatory where she studied for four years until she was noticed at a Master Class for her performance of Bach’s Prelude and Fugue. This performance gained her a coveted scholarship to the Belarusian State Academy of Music in Minsk, where she studied for ten years achieving a Masters as a Concert Pianist.

Over the last ten years Yuan has competed in several competitions achieving awards in over half a dozen, including overall Champion for two consecutive years at the Ukranian International Piano Competition in 2006/7. In December 2008 Yuan took part in an International Piano competition in Europe and it was there that Yuan first met an Englishman, Kevin Styles. Romance blossomed and they married in June 2015. They have now settled in High Wycombe.

A chance meeting with Louise led to them becoming firm friends. Yuan became accompanist to the Downley Descants in Summer 2015. Following Thelma’s retirement in January 2016 Yuan then eagerly accepted the position of accompanist to The Orpheus.

She has embraced both roles with skill and patience and is already a firm favourite with all the choristers. Louise is delighted to have Yuan “by her side” and they are definitely the A team!
